《英国文学简史》的不同看法
这是我们文学课的课本。在豆瓣上的介绍说“观点马列主义，内容简明扼要，语言浅显易懂，形式图文并茂”。观点确实有一点泛政治化，内容简明扼要也是真的。语言浅显也是真的，不过可惜中式英语印记浓重。图文并茂吗，既然是很久以前出版的书，也算不错了。整体印象不太好，于是我的评级是“较差”。
最让人受不了的是其中的很多很多 wrong English 或者怪怪的表达，让我十分郁闷，当然也十分搞笑，差点被当成一本笑话书。
讲 Beowulf 把 Grendel 杀死之后，作者说: But Grendel has a mother. She comes to avenge her son’s death. 毕竟有些生物是没有妈妈的，比如石猴孙悟空。
在讲到 Thomas More 的 Utopia 说道：In the second book, is described in detial an ideal communist society, Utopia. 老感觉他这么倒装怪怪的。而且虽说我没什么政治觉悟，我还是知道乌托邦跟共产主义还是不同的。
在讲英国戏剧的开端的时候说道：Intimate and constant in its intercourse with theatre and actors… 不要误解，这是在说观众和艺人在审美观之类的事情上互相影响。能发现这个问题，说明我不是什么正人君子 
在讲莎士比亚的时候说 At the age of seven, William was sent to the local grammar school which he attended for six years. 说不上来到底哪里有什么错误，就是觉得十分十分诡异，给我感觉是可能他六年一直没下课没回家，也可能是他六年来来往往就只顾进门了。我感觉说成 …where he had been educated for 6 years.
还有一段特别“马”的：Shakespeare lived in an age when the old feudal social and economic order was being destroyed and a new capitalist society was being born and when London took a leading part in that destruction and that new birth. 只是感觉奇怪而已。
还是说莎士比亚呢：But somehow, he retired to his native town about 1611. 虽然字典上确实有 native town 这个词，可是还是感觉不能接受。况且，年份前边的介词哪里去了？
一句很强的话，在讲《仲夏夜之梦》说 But Puck unluckily drops it (the juice) into Lysander’s eyes, making him confess love to Helena. When Puck applies the juice again, both Demetrius and Lysander make love to Helena. 暴汗，我就什么也不说了。
在英国革命的时候，有一节 The Split within the Revolutionary Camp 第一句说 As soon as victory was won… 就像 It’s really a successful success… 一样难受。
作者在夸奖 Jonathan Swift 的时候说: Swift is a master satirist, and his irony is deadly. 原意应该是“Swift 很强，强死了！”然而不幸的是： deadly 的意思是 very very boring.
在夸拜伦的时候说 For months he worked and worked, all night long… 感觉嘛，这句话太“中”了。
当然还有很多牵扯到政治观点而不太容易接受（至少对我而言是这样），比如许多 the people’s democracy 很显然是中译英啦，明明是 democracy 了，其实不需要再形容是谁的 democracy 了。书里还反复提到 proletariat, bourgeoisie, progressive, revolutionary 等等。还有讲 Robert Burns 的内容，没怎么提到他在 Scotland 如何被人喜欢以至于还有一个叫 Burns Super 的节日。倒是不停地强调他“因为自己的农民阶级出身”而同情贫苦农民、仇恨地主阶级。既然要讨论阶级，那就讨论一下。其实 Burns 家再穷，也是拥有农场的，所以按照马主义的观点讲他也是地主阶级。于是后边的一切建立在“阶级出身”上的结论，都变得没意义了。
